09 — The Loop To Song

Take a fully built loop and expand it into a song with clear sections and roles.

Structure

Core Constraints
  • Start with a fully built loop that could function as a chorus. Add up to 3 supporting elements to help define sections. Verses should feel reduced compared to the chorus. Try not to rely on entirely new ideas. Just adapt the loop.
Arrangement
Intro Hint at the loop using partial elements. Set tone without revealing the full chorus energy.
Verse 1 Strip the loop down. Use fewer layers, lighter drums, or simplified bass. Leave space for the main idea to feel withheld.
Chorus Present the full loop. This is the most complete and energetic version of the idea.
Verse 2 Return to a reduced version. Introduce a small rhythmic, textural, or melodic variation.
Chorus Full loop again, slightly elevated. Use automation or subtle additions for progression.
Bridge Break away from the loop’s full structure. Remove drums, change texture, or isolate one element.
Final Chorus Strongest and fullest version. All key elements present with maximum clarity and energy.
Outro Wind down from the chorus. Strip back gradually or end with a decisive stop.
Session Plan

Work in 3 to 5 defined sessions. Define the goal before starting. Stop when the goal is complete. Stand up and step away before beginning another session. Back-to-back sessions are fine. Breaks are required.

Wildcards
Keep the same pattern but alter the density without adding new sounds
Extend one section beyond its expected length before introducing contrast
Introduce a key element earlier than expected, but in a heavily altered form

Caveat — If deviation improves momentum and doesn’t stall progress, commit to it.

Finish the full arrangement before judging.

It doesn't need to be perfect. It needs to be finished.
