01 — The Classic Build
Finish a full track without overbuilding or overcomplicating.
Structure
intro → verse 1 → chorus 1 → verse 2 → chorus 2 → bridge → final chorus → outro
Choose tempo, time signature, and section lengths quickly. Adjust later if needed.
Core Constraints
- One drum kit. One bass sound. 1 to 3 melodic voices.
- Maximum active elements at once: 5
- No new sounds after Chorus 1
- 1 to 2 elements should stay unchanged. Think small band, not orchestra.
Arrangement
Intro
Light percussion, pad build, or arpeggiated line. Introduce one Verse 1 element before it ends.
Verse 1
Variation of intro; add bass and one melodic idea.
Chorus 1
50 to 75% of verse percussion. Same bass, varied pattern. Add one melodic voice (~80% energy).
Verse 2
Familiar. Start thinner, build toward Chorus 2.
Chorus 2
Similar to Chorus 1. Change one voice only.
Bridge
Existing drums with FX/filtering. Same bass, new variation. Build toward the final chorus starting halfway through.
Final Chorus
Highest energy point. Add one lift element.
Outro
Hard cut with tail, reverse intro, or stripped fragments. Fade, stop, or resolve on downbeat.
Session Plan
Work in 3 to 5 defined sessions. Define the objective before starting. Stop when complete. Stand up and step away before beginning another session. Back-to-back sessions are fine. Breaks are required.
Wildcards
Mute one element for exactly 4 bars somewhere unexpected
Add intensifying automation to one element for an entire section
Replace one repeating part with a single-pass performance
Caveat — If deviation improves momentum and doesn’t stall progress, commit to it.
Finish the full arrangement before judging.
It doesn't need to be perfect. It needs to be finished.
